Best Plows For Personal Use in 2022

What’s the best plow for at home use in 2022?

Usually I write about automotive tools and auto repairs. In this post I’m going to go a little sideways, but stay on track by giving you the best home use plows money can buy in 2022. It’s still a tool right. Oxford defines a tool like this,

1.

a device or implement, especially one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function.

Oxford Languages

I guess we have to look past the part where it says “especially in the hand”, but there’s no doubt a plow is an important tool in the winter time. I live in the Northern tip of New York and it snows A LOT. If there’s ever a time you will be asking for the best home use plow it’s mid-January in the snow belt.

Although it doesn’t fit the definition of a tool word for word, buying a plow for your truck or SUV will never be something you regret. Unless of course you live in the Southern Hemisphere. Okay, enough with the blabbering. Here it goes.

Note: I have no financial interests in any of these companies and I make nothing if you buy one of these home use plows. The only revenue I may possibly collect is from ad clicks.

Best Plows for Personal Use in 2022

This is not a post about commercial plows. I will not be introducing you to $10,000 plow setups that you could use to plow the Home Depot parking lot. (If commercial use plows is what you’re looking for I found a list of the thirty top commercial plows. Skip over and check it out and come back.) I’m going to give you a few options for personal use plows that won’t leave you broke

1.) HomePlow by Meyer

The Meyer HomePlow is exactly what it’s name implies. It’s a plow for your home and other personal needs. Whether it’s plowing your own driveway or helping out a friend the HomePlow by Meyer is a perfect, affordable option.

The Meyer Home Plow Basic (Model #23250) can be bought online for under $2500! And shipped within a few days. Offering 80 inches of snow clearing and weighing less than 200 pounds, this plow is an option you should seriously consider with snow right around the corner.

Another handy feature of the Meyer Home Plow is it’s ability to be mounted on light SUV’s. You don’t need a full size truck to push snow with the 23250. As long as you can mount a front end receiver on the vehicle, you can install the Meyer Home Plow.

As you can see, the Meyer Home Plow can have you pushing snow without a full size truck.

Small Businesses can benefit from a personal plow also.

Owning a small business is tough and saving cash flow is important to keeping the doors open. That’s why it’s a good investment to buy a plow if you own a small business in a part of the world where it snows. A couple thousand up front will save you thousands every year in fees paid to contractors to keep your business parking lot clear of snow.

I have personally paid the cost of a personal use plow to snow removal companies for my small business in just one year. It’s important for a small business owner to keep the cost of snow removal to a minimum.

Companies like Affirm have made it possible to finance a plow in 2022

If you have a decent credit history you can even finance the Meyer Home Plow for your personal use. Though I would recommend saving the interest, it’s a good option to be able to finance a plow if it fits your situation.

2.) SnowSport HD Utility Plow

Possibly an even better option to plow your own driveway is the SnowSport HD Utility Plow. This brand offers two versions of the HD plow in 84” and 96” with the longer version coming in under $2000. Wow. Not to say that $2000 isn’t a lot of money, but to be able to buy a plow under two grand was at one time unthinkable.

Like the Meyer version, the SnowSport HD is mounted on a front end receiver so installation and removal are a breeze. This lightweight plow also claims it doesn’t need lighting because it won’t cover your trucks original lights. It’s sleek design allows a low profile setup without the hassle of wiring a plow harness

As you can see, this plow doesn’t need to be wired for lights because it doesn’t cover the factory lighting.

Amazingly the SnowSport HD home use plow weighs only 110 pounds! A plow on the front of your SUV that likely weighs less than you and can still keep your driveway, field or other  snow covered area clean. It’s impressive and the reviews are great on this plow.

3.) DK II Storm Personal Use Plow

The third and final personal use plow that I want you to meet is the DK II Storm. This plow is arguably the best looking personal plow on this list. There’s no doubt that it’s the most heavy duty looking plow on the list. Looks can be deceiving though, so it’s important to read and watch reviews on these home use plows.

After reading and watching several pieces on the DK 2 Storm, I’m still not sold on the custom mounting it offers. Some of the retailers selling it claimed it uses a two inch front end receiver, but the pictures I saw suggest otherwise.

As you can see, the DK 2 Storm personal use plow looks heavy duty. It’s mounting style looks a bit more complicated than the others.

The DK 2 Storm plow varied in price more than the others, likely due to the custom mounting options. At most though, you should still be able to buy one for around $2,000. Again, not a days pay for most but also not a car loan either. It’s one more affordable personal use plow on the market, giving you another option to clean up your driveway at home.

What are the benefits of owning a plow?

Owning a personal plow has many benefits, not the least of which is financial gain. With contractors charging more to plow driveways and parking lots in 2022, having a plow of your own can pay for itself in just a couple years.

It’s also very possible to make some side cash plowing driveways for people after a snow storm. In my part of Northern New York, the going rate to have your driveway plowed is $20 for a standard size.

Small business owners can benefit even more from an affordable, lightweight plow. Snow-removal companies get expensive and work at their own pace. With a plow on the business truck, an owners parking lot can be the first one plowed every winter storm.

Which personal use plow should you buy?

Choosing which plow to buy for your personal snow removal projects is going to be a matter of preference. In this post I gave you a few good choices for home use plows, but ultimately everyone is going to have a unique need, want and financial situation.

It’s not my usual practice to recommend one product over the other. I would rather make you aware of what options are there for home use plows and let you choose which one fits your needs.

Do your research and let me know which of these plows you use in your driveway and which one works best.
